Nepean Sports Wall of Fame Announces the Appointment of Five New Board Members

Nepean, ON – February 23, 2022 – The Nepean Sports Wall of Fame today announced the appointment of five new members to its board of directors who will help support the non-profit’s mission to recognize attained excellence and athletic achievement by Nepean athletes, teams, coaches/managers, builders, and media at the national and international levels of competition.

David Rattray, Chair stated, “I am thrilled to welcome such a strong group of new board members. We now have a board of 10 directors with a variety of skills and experience strongly linked to the Nepean sports community. Our focus will be directed at establishing a strategic plan outlining several key initiatives to continue the growth and development of the Nepean Sports Wall of Fame.”

The five new board appointees are:

  • Ameet Bhalla, Chartered Professional Accountant (C.P.A.), a Certified Internal Auditor (C.I.A.) and a Project Management Professional (P.M.P.). He retired in 2017 as Director, Corporate Projects at Canada Post, where he had worked since 1983. Ameet will serve as Treasurer.
  • Mark Gallant, long-time hockey official and dedicated member of the hockey community. With Hockey Canada, he was assistant coach for Canada’s National Para Hockey Team and part of the gold-medal-winning team at the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy. Mark was inducted to the Nepean Sports Wall of Fame in 2021. He works for Canada Revenue Agency as a senior analyst.
  • Lianne Laing, Executive Director, Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation, and VP Philanthropy, Ottawa Heart Institute. Lianne is a former elite gymnast and had a 20-year broadcast television career with Bell Media. She holds degrees in both Business and Sports Management.
  • Greg Stremlaw, President and Chief Executive Officer of Indy Sports & Entertainment where he runs a professional soccer team and leads the Eleven Park project. Greg is the former Head of CBC Sports, where he oversaw the iconic Hockey Night in Canada as well as Olympic and Paralympic coverage for Canada. Prior to CBC, he was the CEO of Curling Canada.
  • Ken Warren, Sportswriter with the Ottawa Citizen and Ottawa Sun for more than three decades. Ken spent 25 years on the NHL beat. He played amateur sports in Nepean and coached his daughters in hockey and soccer. Ken graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism (Honours).

About the Nepean Sports Wall of Fame

The Nepean Sports Wall of Fame was established in 1985 by the Nepean Chamber of Commerce to recognize attained excellence and athletic achievement by Nepean athletes, teams, coaches/managers, builders, and media at the national and international levels of competition. The Nepean Sports Wall of Fame currently consists of 82 inductees representing 27 different sports. All inductees’ plaques are displayed on the physical Wall of Fame, located in the Nepean Sportsplex lobby.
