Nepean Knights Jr B Team 2022

The Nepean Knights Jr B box lacrosse team emerged as a dominant force in 2022, roaring to Ontario and Canadian titles (Founders Cup) in spectacular fashion.

After going 18-2 during the regular season in the Far East division, the Knights went 12-0 in the playoffs. They captured the provincial title in game three of a best of five series with a convincing 8-1 victory over the Windsor Clippers at the Howard Darwin Centennial Arena in Nepean.

From there, the Knights went to the Canadian championships in Brampton, going 5-0 in the round robin and knocking off Coquitlam, B.C., 7-6 in a nail-biting final.

It’s the first National title for an Ottawa-area junior box lacrosse team. The 1976 Nepean Lumbermen, who won provincial silver, were the only other team to reach the Jr B league final.

Much of the Knights’ success came from their resilience and strong team bond, as many players have been teammates going back 10 or more years.  The team stayed active when the league was shut down during COVID as head coach Matt Firth found creative ways for the team to train outside when social distancing rules were in place.
