After an illustrious beginning to his football career in Nepean, Mark Moors went on to greater glory as a lineman at Acadia University and with four Canadian Football League franchises, including his hometown Ottawa Rough Riders.
He won the Grey Cup in 1984 and the Vanier Cup in 1979.
Moors first established himself as a dominant presence on the field while playing for the Queensway Titans and the Sir Robert Borden High School Bengals.
He then moved on to Acadia (1975 to 1979), where he was named an all-Canadian in 1978 and 1979, and played in the CanAm bowl (against top NCAA players) in 1978 and 1979. The crowning glory at the university level was winning the Vanier Cup in 1979.
Acadia also advanced to the Vanier Cup in 1976 and 1977. Moors, who played both centre and right guard at Acadia, was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the fifth round of the 1978 CFL draft.
His decade in the CFL -- which included serving as a long snapper at every stop along the way -- began with the Stampeders from 1980-82. Moors went on to play with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1983 to1986, where he won the Grey Cup in 1984 as the starting right guard. Moors also played for Ottawa in 1988 and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1989.
Before the glory on the national stage, Moors helped lead the Sir Robert Borden High School Bengals to the Carleton junior championships in 1972 and the Ottawa Carleton senior title in 1974.
Moors’ final game was with the Ottawa Bootleggers in 1989, where he finally played alongside his brother Rodney, the quarterback.
