Gerry LaPorte made a significant mark on the world lawn bowling from 1998 to 2023, with an impressive array of accomplishments.
LaPorte, who competed for the Nepean Lawn Bowls Club and the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association (OLBA), represented Ontario twice at the Canadian Championships and earned a national silver medal.
At the provincial level, he won gold, a silver and two bronze medals.
In 2001, LaPorte was recognized with an Ottawa Sports Award. Nearly a decade later, 2010 proved to be a standout year—he won the OLBA’s Bill Boettger Award, received the Ontario Community Hero Award, and was part of Ontario’s gold medal men’s fours team.
Additionally, LaPorte has twice served as president of Nepean Lawn Bowls and has been president and on the executive board for the District 16 OLBA. He has worked on bringing special needs people into the sport and has served as an umpire at provincial and national championship events.
