In 2022, the Nepean Corona School of Gymnastics celebrated its 50th anniversary, a tribute to Agnes Laing’s dream when she served as co-founder of the club in 1972.
Laing introduced a variety of new marketing concepts in helping grow the club to the point where it now serves 2,000 students per week in a 20,000 square foot facility. It has also been home to countless provincial champions and the springboard for athletes who received NCAA scholarships and competed in national and international competitions.
Nepean Corona has also hosted two national championships and served as the training ground for many of Canada’s top coaches.
Laing served in a variety of capacities over the years until her retirement in June 2023.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Laing received a Recognition Award from the gymnastic community for successfully lobbying the federal government for support while clubs were closed down.
After graduating from McGill University, Laing moved to Ottawa and coached the University of Ottawa’s women’s team before opening Corona.
